| Kyle Cox and Ryan Grider Cross Red River to Capture First Place |
|
|
Southwest Junior Open, Belmar Classic held at Belmar GC in Norman, Oklahoma brought two fiercely loyal UT Longhorn fans into the heart of OU Sooner country. Ten year old Kyle Cox, fresh off his 2nd place finish at USKids World Championship in Pinehurst, North Carolina, crossed the Red River for a chance to meet Country Superstar Toby Keith, a part owner of the Belmar GC. Twelve year old Ryan Grider, had a birthday just before this event and would be playing in the Boys 12-13 division, while Kyle, who just turned ten two and a half months ago would be in the Boys 10-11 division.
Incredibly, both boys turned in identical final scores. Kyle went 71-68 and Ryan shot 68-71 to win their divisions and receive not only the Commemorative flag displaying their achievement, but an autographed guitar - signed by Toby Keith and they had their picture taken with him. Toby had said that he was so impressed wth the event that next year, Universal Golf Solutions will add Toby's name to the event.

| Kyle Cox Returned to Pinehurst and takes 2nd place in US Kids World Championship. |
|
|
Kyle Cox, 10, returned to Pinehurst to compete in his 6th US Kids World Championship. His record in the World Championship is one of the best. Just 2 months after turning 5, Kyle competed in the Boys 6 and Under division and was 15th - and it was the highest finish for all 5 year olds competing. The following year, now 6, he won his first World Championship title - less than 2 years after his very first golf tournament.
As a 7 year old, he placed 10th and the following year he was 2nd in the Boys 8 division. In 2009, the 9 year olds played 18 holes each day and Kyle won his second World Championship title. He was the only one in his division to have 2 rounds in the 60's.
This year, only Kyle and the winner, Brian Terlesky from Ohio were the only 2 in their division to have rounds in the 60's and only 4 others were able to break par in any of the 3 rounds. Kyle finished only 2 shots behind Brian and was 9 shots ahead of 3rd place finisher Harrison from South Carolina.
Coach Suckki Jang works with Kyle and his father, Paul, and together they have helped Kyle have the winningest US Kids World Championship record in his age group with 2 wins, 2 second place finishes, a top 10 and a top 15. Coach Jang's teaching methods, combined with swing analysis and a scholarship to the Hank Haney Ranch has helped Kyle continue to grow and improve. Coach Jang's vision for Kyle's golfing future is exciting and his support for Kyle has been tremendously rewarding.
Kyle has a lifetime exemption at the World Championship and he has just 2 more years and 2 more chances to add to his winning record.

| Kyle Cox, 9, becomes Two-Time World Champion for US Kids Golf at Pinehurst. |
|
Kyle Cox returned to Pinehurst, North Carolina, to compete in his 5th World Championship. He had won the Boys 6 in 2006 and came close last year with 2nd place. Now that he would be playing 18 holes each day and the longer distances, he was ready to reclaim the title. Playing at the beautiful Pinehurst No. 8 course, Kyle shot an opening round of 76 and was just 4 shots off the lead. On the second round, Kyle fired off a 69 and was one of only 2 golfers to shoot under par for the first two days. His second round score put him just 1 shot off the lead entering the final round.
On the last day, Kyle shot a 68 to reclaim the title of World Champion, by beating last year's winner Trent Phillips. Kyle was the only 9 year old in a field of 143 from all over the world, to shoot two rounds in the 60's. Kyle is trained by Coach Sukki Jang, director of teaching at Hank Haney's Vista Ridge Golf Ranch. |
